Donald Trump's Regime of Consequences and Incentives

Donald Trump's voracious appetite for revenge has swiftly evolved into a methodical framework. Within the year since his election, the leader's anger and caprices have assumed the shape of official policies in a manner analogous to earlier dictatorial regimes. Government personnel who resist his demands are summarily removed and succeeded by supporters. Critical officials who confront him encounter prosecution, court proceedings and punishment. Critics have been categorized under executive orders as “unpatriotic”, “opposed to religious values” and “anti-capitalist”, and menaced with prosecution as “extremists”.

The Justice System Transformed

Every instance involving targeting of critics and leniency for loyalists exhibits its own particular characteristics. Yet, regardless of their particular nature, they exemplify examples of what has emerged as a systematic approach. Those incidents are anything but random. The administration's removal of federal attorneys and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, accompanied by his appointment of loyalists in key roles, began quickly, soon assumed a consistency, and has now been molded into a structure. The justice department and the Federal Bureau have been restructured into partisan organizations under the president's explicit direction to execute his demands. Wrongdoing has been rendered routine. It constitutes the apparatus of revenge.

Administration is preoccupied with penalizing the leader's supposed adversaries than they are with protecting our national security.

Internal the System

The beginnings of this mechanism has been exposed in the court filing of multiple former senior law enforcement executives submitted in the ninth month in the US district court in the capital against FBI director an administration figure and attorney general Pam Bondi for unlawful firing in “a effort of revenge against the officials for what the accused considered to be a failure to demonstrate proper political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the previous interim leader, describes a discussion in which he “freely confessed the impropriety of his conduct”.

The official had tried to protect law enforcement officers from being fired, the lawsuit alleges. He informed him that “administration officials” – interpreted by Driscoll to be the presidential administration and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to fire anyone who they considered as having participated in a legal probe against Trump. The complaint continues: “The director clarified that he had to dismiss the people his bosses told him to fire, because his ability to retain his own job relied on the ouster of the officials who worked on cases involving the chief executive. Patel noted that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other terminations, because ‘the FBI attempted to incarcerate the chief in jail and he recalls it clearly.’” When he told Patel he was disregarding the agency's own internal rules, the director reportedly said “he knew that and he knew the essence of the swift terminations were almost certainly improper”.

Widespread Consequences

Since the director's alleged confession to him, the Department of Justice and the FBI have been weakened and redirected for the administration's revenge apparatus. Several of the FBI's top officials were terminated or forced out in the first days of the government. Approximately 4,500 professional attorneys at DoJ have taken a “deferred resignation program”. No fewer than seven DoJ lawyers, including those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in protest over what they viewed as partisan influence in dropping the corruption case against the city leader, a political figure, in return for his cooperation with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement roundups of foreign nationals. The ethics division of DoJ, which oversees corruption cases, has been reduced to two attorneys. The equality section has been decimated: seventy percent of its staff has resigned. A third of executives at the department have left. The unit implementing environmental law has experienced the exit of a majority its management.

Incentives and Sanctions

Concerning the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the southern district of New York, the official, quit in dissent against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. A key figure, the president's “immigration leader,” appeared as the enforcer with Adams on a media outlet to declare: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll be back in NYC.”. Meanwhile, another figure, previously the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the agreement, was granted an court role, a likely springboard to the supreme court.

His protection for offenses carried out while in power, awarded by the extraordinary ruling of the Republican majority on the highest court, thus thwarting his prosecution over the January 6 insurrection and maintaining his public standing for the 2024 election, is the foundation stone on which he depends to shield his stalwarts. With such immunity, he has been liberated to permit misconduct. The consequence of the judicial ruling permeates his government and the GOP thoroughly. The court matter has escalated. As a past leader's legal adviser he said about the Watergate
