The renowned publisher has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Comes After Lukewarm Response
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a clearer direction.
Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the complete content from the president's communication:
Team—
I know you all just completed your town hall - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and talented developers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to heart and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our audience.
Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To boost the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following a period of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most recognizable series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming him next week. We are all eager to continue observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.
David
